RVA Factory: Where Craftsmanship Comes to Life

Worthen Furniture craftsman customizing metal bed frame

First things first — let’s take a peek inside Worthen’s Richmond-based workshop where local artisans turn raw materials into heirloom-quality furniture. More than just a factory, it’s a creative hub where craftsmanship meets customization. From flowers that bloom out of brass to sleek ironwork, every wrought iron bed, brass bed or steel bed frame is truly one-of-a-kind.

At Worthen, each piece starts with premium materials — bins of steel and brass and bolts of fabric and leather. The process is meticulous: metal is bent, cast and welded by skilled hands. Each piece is then coated, painted and finished right in RVA.

But what else sets this Virginia-based manufacturing company apart?

High Quality Craftsmanship

Worthen’s skilled craftsmen use techniques that have stood the test of time. Just one example? Instead of relying on bolts, nuts and screws, they use a friction-fit dovetail joint system — a century-old method that creates interlocking metal bed frames for unmatched stability and durability. With careful attention to detail, they weld frames, handfinish details and add personal touches — like painters’ signatures.

Customization options

Every piece is made to order. This means that your custom bed frame can become a reality faster than you’d imagine. Whether you’re searching for specific dimensions for a king canopy bed or you’re wanting a unique finish on a mid-century modern bed frame — Worthen can craft it.

Heirloom Quality

Searching for a specific piece? Whether it’s a modern canopy bed, a brass bed frame or an iron daybed, you’ll find something you love. Worthen is the only manufacturer we know of that guarantees its furniture for two lifetimes — yours and whomever you choose to gift it to.

Worthen Hits the National Stage

It’s easy to see that Worthen boasts superior craftsmanship and customization, but what makes this boutique manufacturer perfect for Green Front shoppers? It’s the furniture’s ability to be both of-the-moment and timeless — en vogue yet enduring.

For fans of grandmillennial style — the perfect marriage of traditional elegance and modern sensibility — Worthen delivers in spades. Canopy beds add a touch of luxury. Vintage metal bed frames bring charm and sophistication. In other words, these are pieces that make a statement without feeling overdone.

It’s no surprise, then, that Worthen’s timeless designs have captured the attention of top publications like Virginia Living, Traditional Home, Milieu and Elle Decor. Originally founded in 1975 as Brass Beds of Virginia, today the company has evolved into a name recognized far beyond state lines. This reputation culminated in Worthen’s debut at High Point Market in April 2024, a significant milestone for the brand.

Additionally, Worthen has become a go-to brand for interior designers. This past year Sara Hillery sourced a custom-designed Worthen tea cart for her interior featured in Veranda magazine. In 2023, Eric Ross Interiors showcased twin picket fence beds in one of his designs.

Worthen Furniture’s rise to national recognition is no coincidence. The perfect balance of trend and timelessness resonates with tastemakers and interior designers alike. This brand offers Green Front shoppers more than just Virginia iron beds and other beautiful pieces — it offers heirlooms in the making.
