Was This Historic Dumbwaiter Actually an Elevator?

At Monument by Green Front, we’re uncovering some fascinating historic architecture!

In this video, we explore the question: Could William Bottomley’s dumbwaiter lift have also served as a kind of elevator? Restoration expert Al Buczek thinks so!

The interior light and bronze cables hint that this 1920s dumbwaiter might have been used to carry trunks and luggage to the upper floors.

Watch as Den tests out the original dumbwaiter lift mechanism. Then tell us: what do you think it was used for?
